Seeing the butterfly enter the mansion, his chase leads him to the front, where the gate, previously shut tight, swing wide open as though to welcome Daichi.

Daichi steps in. As he explores the mansion's edge, he comes upon an ocean of flowers behind the building and a young man standing alone amongst the blossoms. In the rain, the man plucks a bouquet that fills both his arms, and disappears into the mansion. Curiosity piqued, Daichi approaches the place the man had disappeared to and peers into the house. There, he spies the man he'd seen before together with another young man.

Surprised, Daichi hastily runs away. But the image won't leave his mind.

The next day, he tries to find the place again, but he can't find it no matter how hard he tries. Out of options, he goes to leave the mountain when a thick fog envelopes its slopes. Daichi wanders through the haze when, once again, he comes upon the young man from the previous day.

Daichi approaches the man to try to ask for a way down from the mountain, but the other informs him that scaling the slopes in the fog is dangerous, so he invites him into his place.

Awaiting them there is the other man.

The two welcome Daichi, who ends up staying over for some time.

However, it never occurred to Daichi that this would result in him being shut in the mansion.

And here, during his stay, Daichi experiences pleasure and love, as though all were a summer's illusion. (aarin)

Kannagi no Tori

There is a place known as "Kannagi-san" (or Kannagi Mountain), which connects the world of the living with the world of the dead. Here, beings called the "Kannagi no Tori" (or Birds of Kannagi) live, and it is their job to take the souls of the people who die to Kannagi-san, where they can then pass on to the world of the dead. The "Kannagi no Tori" get sent out just before someone dies to retrieve their soul and bring it back.

However, one "Kannagi no Tori," Ikaru, is different. He feels wrong about death, and typically when he is sent out instead of letting the death take place and retrieving the soul, he usually interferes with fate by preventing an accident, convincing someone not to commit suicide, or rescuing the person in danger to save their life. He still has not retrieved a single soul. He is given a "final mission" to prove himself as a "Kannagi no Tori," and if he fails, he will cease to exist.

His mission is to retrieve the soul of a young boy, Watanaki Ruu, who is to die in a car accident on the first of June, in about one month. Over this month Ikaru has several interactions with Ruu and his family, and feels an usual tie to Ruu, and doesn't want to take his soul... but his fellow "Kannagi no Tori" friends are trying to make sure he gets his mission done because they don't want to see their friend cease to exist, and at the same time, they have missions of their own involving people around Ruu as well.

After being devastated in the third World War (known as The Third Division), Japan was divided in two. Several years after the end of the war, a crime organization called Vischio has taken control of the destroyed city of Toshima (formerly Tokyo, Japan's capital city), where they are holding a battle game known as "Igura". The game's main character, a young man named Akira, is falsely accused of a crime. Oosaka Jin moved to a new school because of his parent's job transfer. Rumour has it that some students from that school have gone missing recently. Events in Break Chance Memento center on the Amamiya family: brothers Natsume, Masaharu, and Shuuki.
Four years ago, Shuuki Amamiya’s world was turned upside-down upon the accidental death of his twin sister, Fuyuka, at just 12 years of age.
